What to Expect;

Rwanda has only 1 Savannah National Park. This 1,122 sq Km Mass of Land is the Largest and only one with Wetland adapted species in the Great Lakes Region. It is Home to Africa’s Big 5 Including The large African Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Rhinos, Buffaloes as well as the other smaller Species like Antelopes and Zebras. Akagera NP is also home to amazing aquatic Life like the Large Nile Crocodiles, Hippos as well as Aquatic Birds like African Fish Eagles and Pied King Fishers. For the Bird Lovers, the Park is home to more than 550 Bird Species making it a truly Birding Paradise.

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera NP + Half Day Game Drive

You will have relaxed Breakfast and at about 8am, you will head to the Gisozi Genocide Memorial where you will have an insight into the worst Genocides against humanity committed against the Tutsi of Rwanda. A total of approximately 1000,000 Tutsi died in a space of 1 month. Here you will have insight into Rwanda History as well as post genocide Recovery.

You will thereafter set off for Akagera National Park the Largest and only Savannah NP in Rwanda. This Park which is approximately 1,122 sq. kms in size is the largest protected wetland in Africa and is home to Africa’s and Rwanda’s last Savannah adopted species.

There will be a short coffee stopover at Imigongo Cafe before proceeding to the Southern Entrance of the Park where you will check-in.

We will there after drive to the Southern plains of the Park for a short game drive in search of Wildlife like Lions, Elephants and Giraffes, Zebras, Different Antelope Species resident there. We will then return to the Lodge for Late Lunch. You will thereafter rest at the Lodge, in your Rooms or by the Poolside with a view of Lame Ihema.

Driving Distance: 3 hrs- Exclusive of Game Drives.

Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner + Snacks & Soft Refreshments.

Activities: Transfer to Akagera NP, Half Day Game Drive + Genocide Memorial Museum Visit

Day 2:  Full Day Game Drive- Northern Akagera Sector

Your 2^nd Day in Akagera NP will start with Breakfast at around 6:00am at your Lodge. By 7am, armed with your Packed Lunch, you will then head to the Northern sector of Akagera NP in search of more Wildlife like Lions, Elephants and Giraffes predominant there. You will have your packed Lunch in the Kilala Plains before continuing to cover more of the Northern Loops in search of the Big 5. You will then return to your Lodge for the Night and Dinner.

Driving Distance: 8 Hours including Game Drives.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner +Snacks & Soft Refreshments

Activities: Full Day Game Drive

Day 3:  Half Day Game Drive + Night Game Drive

Your Day will start with Breakfast at around 9:00am at your Lodge. You will traverse the Plains of Southern Akagera NP dotted with Wildlife and in search of the Big 5 like Elephants and Lions. You will thereafter return to your Lodge for Hot Lunch, Rest and relax the afternoon as you prepare for the Night Game Drive.

Later in the evening, You will go for a Night Game Drive between 6-8pm in search of the more elusive nocturnal Animals like Leopards, Hyenas as well as Jackals after which, your Guide will then return you to your Lodge for the Night and Dinner.

Driving Distance: 8 Hours including Game Drives.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner +Snacks & Soft Refreshments

Activities: Half Day Game Drive + Night Game Drive

Day 4:  Lake Ihema Boat Ride Transfer back to Kigali

Your 3rd and Last Day in Akagera NP will start with relaxed Breakfast at your Lodge. We will thereafter head to Lake Ihema-The Largest Lake in the Park where we will we have a Boat Ride experience in search of the rich aquatic life there like Crocodiles, Hippos Birds as well other Wildlife coming down to the Shores of the Lake for a morning Drink. You will there after head back to your Lodge for Lunch before driving back to Kigali where your Guide will take you to your Hotel marking what will have hopefully been an amazing Trip with us all at Ritz Safaris Ltd Rwanda.
