Kibeho is in the south of Rwanda at about 102 miles from the capital city in the district of Nyaruguru. It became popular after the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in form of our Lady of Kibeho in between 1981 and 1989. It is said that the land around the church is blessed therefore you find Catholics who come to visit the Kibeho shrine amassing some small stones and herbs to take home. During the apparition of the Virgin Mary to one of the girls, she saw a lot of, therefore, advising her peers to pray hard for the future looks terrible. This was believed to have been a warning for the 1994 Genocide. Apart from being a sacred place and church, it is also a memorial site for thousands of people killed in the Genocide. It is definitely worth checking out.
